Surrender

There are three main components you hear about all the time when you are embarking on your spiritual awakening, and those are:

1. Give up Ego

2. Surrender will

3. Have Faith in the Process

All three of these are tightly interrelated, and you never really totally accomplish any of them, but working on them and self-healing are paramount to the process.

I have covered giving up spiritual ego in another article (listed below), and for this one we are focusing on surrendering will.

I am going to say something that is probably going to trigger some people, but one thing you need to remember is: Free Will is mostly an illusion. When you incarnate on earth, you come with a “soul contract” with all of the lessons you need to learn and a roadmap of sorts for your life here. That doesn’t mean you are not allowed choices; of course, you are. But those feed into timelines and lifetimes and major choices and divisions are almost always resolved at some point through an RSB (reincarnation in same body). Every timeline you agree to incarnate into goes for about 100 human years and in that timeline, you will live seven lifetimes which allows you to cover a tremendous number of experiences and gain a lot of knowledge. So, at those pivot points, you most certainly do have free will. Also, for mundane choices, “Do I want scrambled eggs or poached eggs?” “Should I wear jeans or a dress?” Those are definitely free will options, but they are insignificant and do not matter in the big picture.

So, what does surrendering will mean? To surrender in spirituality means that a believer completely gives up his own will and subjects his thoughts, ideas, and deeds to the will and teachings of a higher power. It may also be contrasted with Submission and Obedience (two more trigger words that humans do not like). Surrender is willful acceptance and yielding to a dominating force and their will. In Christianity it is often defined as “Dying for Self” or “Carrying Your Cross.” It means accepting what the Universe has planned for you and not always trying to control the outcome. My daughter, put it very nicely. Look at life as if you are in a canoe floating down the river; you can go with the current or you can fight it stopping along the way to do what you want, but ultimately the river will get its way and you will end up where you are supposed to be. Surrendering will means accepting that.

Another principle central to the Christian concept of surrender is the concept of surrender to the Will of the Source, God’s Will. Now before you get yourself worked up in a lather over my use of the word “Source” or “God”” feel free to insert “Universe” ’God’ ‘the Divine” whatever word you choose for the Creator and Higher Power. Surrendering to Source’s will entails both the surrender of our will to his, Acceptingh his sovereignty over all things, in which his ways of operating and thinking prevails over humanity’s and Satan’s. Secondarily, the surrender of one’s will is evidenced by the acknowledgement of Source’s will for our personal lives in even the smallest decisions. This is done through putting personal desire aside in favor of Source’s perfect will for our lives. This includes the reality of an acceptance to a calling or purpose. The precipice or essentiality of this personal surrender is obedience, Source is an indication of bringing about His will. Which, having lasting effects through generations, and in kingdoms/nations, is often associated with earthly and heavenly That is surrender.

The ultimate surrender; the surrender of Christ, which is a fully submitted will to Source’s Divine plan, is seen in Christ’s birth as well as His final three prayers, in Gethsemane, before His crucifixion. The coming into the world as Source incarnate and then the surrender to the Cross/His life in the act of sacrificial atonement, breaking the curse of sin and death from the Fall. That is surrender.

It does not mean quitting, it means accepting.
